Classroom Participation
Parents are required to serve as "Parent of the Day" on a rotating basis
throughout the school year. This allows parents to observe firsthand the
social and intellectual development of their child in relation to the
class and permits parents and teachers to get to know each other better.
Please remember that parent participation at this level effectively boosts
the self-esteem and emotional well being of the child and enhances the
parent-child relationship.
-
Each mother (or father) serves as an assistant to the teacher as scheduled.
Any parent who is overburdened by other services to the school may be relieved
of a portion of this basic classroom participation at the
discretion of the executive committee.
-
The participating parent is responsible for securing another participant if she is
unable to be at the school on the day for which she signed.
The participation chairman for the group may be called on for
suggestions and must be notified when changes are made.
-
All participating parents will attend one class meeting during the first
two weeks of school in addition to the new parents' meeting for both
parents.
-
The participating parent brings in a natural fruit juice (i.e. apple, grape,
orange) and a nutritious snack (i.e. bagels, crackers, raisins, fruit).
See Snack Suggestions.
-
The participating parent should not bring siblings into the classroom for an extended period of time.
Maintenance Participation
-
Each father (or mother) participates the equivalent of two three-hour
sessions a year in maintenance of building, grounds, and maintenance
and construction equipment. Any family who is unable to fulfill this
maintenance obligation has the option of paying a $75.00 maintenance
fee per session.
-
The executive committee has the power to relieve a parent from his
basic maintenance participation if, in its opinion, additional duties
would be excessive.
Committee Service
-
Each member is expected to serve on one committee as needed. Any family unable to
complete committee participation on an assigned committee may fulfill the
obligation by aiding another committee, or by attending extra maintenance
sessions, or by paying a fee, amount to be determined by the Executive Committee.
-
In so far as possible, there shall be representation from all groups on all committees.
-
Each member may be called upon to provide food for one event during the school year.
Meetings
-
All members are expected to attend the combined business and parent education meetings four times a year.
-
All participating parents are expected to attend class meetings in September.
New parents will also attend the orientation meetings for both parents.
Fund-Raising Events
-
Members are expected to support all fund-raising events.
